Undercoating / rustproofing for Starex « Thread Started on Mar 5, 2008, 9:09am »
While the Hyundai vehicles are factory rustproofed, there are options for complete rustproofing or undercoating only.
My understanding is that complete rustproofing requires that they remove the panels and rustproof the interiors, and not only the undercarriage of the vehicle.
How many of you have done full rustproofing (interior + undercoating) for your Starex? If you've done so, do you have it validated every PMS check or yearly?
Where did you have rustproofing done? CASA, Ziebart, others? I noticed that different CASAs have different prices, perhaps because some use 3M while others use Ziebart.
I plan to have only undercoating done since the newer versions of the Starex (2000 onwards) supposedly don't have the problem of the rusty panels in the pre-millenium Starex.

Thanks. Will check them out and continue to canvass. Ugong might be a little out of the way for me, it's on the other side of Pasig. On the other hand, I have a neighbor who traveled all the way to Cavite to have his Toyota Camry done at Ziebart (probably looking for a road trip as well)
i inquired last time at ziebart for the full rust protection and the diamond gloss and cost 21,000 all in all good until april 15 na price , yikes
Just wondering, does the Grand Starex need full rustproofing? That's bloody work, removing the interior panels and coating them with rustproof compound, aside from the undercoating. The SAs at the CASA don't wholeheartedly recommend full rustproofing, although they say undercoating will help especially once rainy season starts.
If I recall, the rust issue on the panels is confined to pre-millenium starexes since most of those were not yet tropicalized. In this case, a full rustproofing may enhance the protection as the vehicle ages.

i just want to take some precaution since its our first time owning a korean car tapos grey market pa
di ko rin nga gusto if babaklasin, kung drill ok lang siguro, but its just my plan A, plan B is just to have undercoating and an optiguard paint protection program from big berts for a year which will cost 5600 or just the one time new car paint protection at 1600
maka hi jack na nga sir nitong thread hehehe sori
i noticed kse even with the gray market and local hari units ung sa inside part na paint ng car eh walang clear coat, like ung sa sliding door, ung sa tailgate, kung saan doon pa naman lagi dumidikit ung dumi as i've observed in our previuos van and auv
in the previous strex, wala na ba talga problem sa rust formation given that the car is being wash often and underwash for that matter?
san ba maganda mag pa undercoating lang or rust proofing near ortigas area?

Very interesting observations regarding the clearcoat. Never noticed this myself.
P5600 for Optiguard at Big Berts? What I know is P6500 for large vehicles. This looks like it will save a lot of muscle aches since it's not easy to wax a large vehicle like the Grand Starex.
Check out Scrubby Coat at Ugong. It was mentioned in this thread as well. I finally located the place, it's just before Sandoval Bridge (a few hundred meters away from C5 near SM Hypermart). Well, before reaching that area, Ziebart / Carsavers is nearby. I used to have my previous car serviced there but haven't contacted them recently.

Wow, which model do you have? The HVX or CVX? I saw a gray market unit on the road earlier today, it came with all the bells and whistles, especially the rear windshield wiper, rear high mount stop light with spoiler, signal lights near the driver and passenger side, etc. Didn't notice if it had the double sun roof because I was driving a car (much lower eye level) and not the van.
on a separate note according to some SA of hyundai at the recent MIAS di na daw ata maglalabas ang hari ng GOLD variant
It seems HARI can't decide exactly what to do here...there will always be a market for people who will buy the highest end variant of any vehicle, which is precisely addressed by the Grand Starex Gold variant. Not everyone would like to customize aftermarket so there are people who want all the bells and whistles to come with their purchase.

rust proofing only takes 2 gallons or 3 gallons of undercoat a little kerosene as thinning agent... sa gasoline station labor varies from as low as 800- 1500... be sure lang na alisin ang tires at spare tires at nakatape yung mga running board...
total cost for the repairs 2.5k- 5k depende sa makukuha niyong rustproofing material... ako nga pagnapalatero ko na mga running boards ko iniisip kong material yung tulad sa bedliner ng pick-up kahit sa mga running bards lang... para matibay talaga...
i have nothing against ziebart and bigbert's pero doncha think yung presyo is too high... considering the works i see eh ok-ok lang... pinagkaiba lang nila sa ibang shop di ka na magsusupervise sa works ng sasakyan mo... pero kung kakaririn mo ang pagsusupervise sa gagawa sa gasoline station, malamang yung trabho nila will be better or even tougher pa compared sa ZIEBART...

agree master dodge, mura sa gas station. kailangan lang supervise mo at ipagawa mo gusto mo. yon nga lang mga nakasimangot na gumagawa minsan kasi sabihin maselan ka. pero ang totoong dahilan don, sabi na rin ng petron sa. kaya din daw nila gawa ziebart pero hindi na 800 labor, mas mahal na kasi mabusisi gawa ziebart. and i also think it is true. nagmamahal kasi ang isang trabaho dahil sa quality or procedure na sinusunod nila before applying the rustproofing material. The longer it takes, the more pricey syempre.

Then bumili ako rubberized undercoating spray sa sm. Kahit pa sabihin ng Ziebart na forever na i still doubt it. Kung nag accumulate na putik u might need to chip it off using a stick before applying pressurized water.

i agree k sir Naruto napansin ko din un sa ilalim ng door hinges daming putik at buhangin buti napasin ko. btw, my GRX is more than 1year now. and napansin ko ung rubber coating sa ilalim ng tapalodo ay nagsisismula ng matangal at nag babakbakan na. ask ko lng if do i have to undercoat it or rust proofing?ofcourse budget is also matters. which should i give more concern for? @Graystar- have u done undercoating your car? how was it? how much damage bro?tnx!
